Carmelo Anthony traded to Atlanta

With an enormous tax bill on their hand, the Thunder needed to make a move to cut payroll. That move was made today to send Carmelo Anthony to the Atlanta Hawks in a three team trade, per Shams and Woj. The breakdown is below:

Oklahoma City receives: Dennis Schroder, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot

Atlanta receives: Carmelo Anthony, 2022 lottery protected first, Justin Anderson

Philadelphia receives: Mike Muscala

Complete Trade Breakdown

Anthony will be bought out by Atlanta and will likely sign with Houston to give him a chance to compete for title. Muscala will also likely be released. This move saves the Thunder close to $100 million dollars, as they were heading close to a $300 million tax bill. This also saves Philadelphia money, as they trade away two players that never see much rotation time and also Muscala, which should free up another $5 million. Schroder may also be on the move, but there seems to be mutual interest between the two, and he would be a great backup to Russell Westbrook and provide a spark off of the second unit. As far as Atlanta goes, they have the cap space to be able to take on this trade, and should have a surplus of cap space for years to come. This also essentially gives the starting PG reins to Trae Young, or possibly Jeremy Lin. This is a good trade for all three teams, and every team and key player should walk away very happy after this deal.
