New York Giants' wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has just inked a 5 year, $95 million contract extension, with a whopping $65 million of it being guaranteed. This deal makes Beckham the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history, and he definitely deserves this deal. He has been a top-5 pass-catcher over his first 4 years, amassing at least 90 catches, 1,300 yards, and 10 touchdowns through 2014-2016. He is coming back this year from a broken ankle that sidelined him from most of the 2017 season, and looks to once again be a extremely vital part of the Giants' passing game. Now was the perfect time for both sides to come to a deal, as Beckham can enter the season without any contract concerns or drama surrounding him.
The Giants had a terrible year in 2017 without Beckham, but their offense looks to be a lot more scary this year with a healthy OBJ and first-round pick Saquon Barkley, who is expected to be the starter right away, and is a top pick for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Beckham will be 26 in November, and this deal should leave him in a Giants uniform until he's 30, so hopefully New York can make some deep playoff runs while Beckham is in his prime. It may not come this year, with teams like the Eagles, Vikings, Saints, and Rams looking very strong, but if the Giants can find a good replacement for Eli Manning (who will likely retire soon) and obtain a couple more good players, then they will be back in contention in no time.
